Ever seen chickadee eggs before? I sure hadn't until today. But the pair that have been trying to overcome the bee menace for two weeks now have finally succeeded - and now have a full clutch!

You may be surprised to learn, since they are such omnipresent visitors of bird feeders, that Carolina Chickadees are actually in decline throughout the Southeast. While keeping your feeders full certainly helps, the best thing we can do for them is to provide the nesting opportunities they need to keep their numbers up. That's why I make one model of the Borbhouse specifically for them - if you go to https://www.oakridgebirdman.com/product/borbhouse/ you can select the "small bird" option under "entry hole width," and rest assured that it will keep those bigger, meaner birds (looking at you, Sialis sialis) from bullying them out of their homes. And you can also rest assured that I'll be keeping every last one of you updated with how this little family comes along!

A new month, with new markets! The seasons are changing, and so is our schedule ...

April marks the end of the winter market season and the beginning of the spring and summer. The first big change that means for us is that we are no longer inside in Oak Ridge on Saturdays: we are now outside at Jackson Square! With that, though, are different rules for what we can sell as vendors - namely, the only feeds we can sell *at* the market at this time are Bird Butter and our seed mix - but if you're wanting feeds that aren't on that very short list, you can always order online for pickup at the market, or for delivery! Of course we'll still have all of our feeders, nest boxes, and mounting kits available for sale.

The second big change: the market is opening up in West Knoxville! Tuesdays from 3-6 you can find us in the parking lot of Ebenezer United Methodist Church selling those very same wares as above, under those very same rules.

Market Square, sadly, is out for the entire month of April, but when it starts back up again in May, you'll be able to find us there every Wednesday and Saturday till the end of November! This is BIG for us.

Lastly, while I'm currently updating it, in the next few days all of this info, as well as the few one-time markets we'll be working (like a certain little festival called "Dogwood Arts") will be up on the website at https://www.oakridgebirdman.com/events/ - so keep yourself up to date there! One other bit of information I'm going to start including besides time, date, and location, is what specific goods we'll have available at each event. It can be confusing to keep track of the different things we're allowed to sell at different markets (it's certainly no fun for us), so having this info online will make a solid reference for the perennial question of "Will they have what I'm after on hand there, or do I need to order it online first?"

Tree Swallows are here! The males have just arrived, no/few females yet, and they're scouting out their nesting territories - which means that if you live near a lake, river, creek, or pond, you're in the perfect spot to set up a nest box for them!

"Well what sort of nest box do they want?" You'll be happy to know that they'll happily reside in any space a bluebird would, so the standard model Borbhouse is just right! Hey all, this is just a heads-up that the online store will be CLOSED next week! We've got two markets this weekend (details below) and will have one the following, but from noon this coming Sunday (02/25) until noon the following (03/03) we won't be processing any orders via the web shop.

What does this mean practically? It means that if you're needing bird supplies in the OR/Knoxville area, you can get them via the following means:

1) Pick them up at the Oak Ridge Winter Farmers Market tomorrow, 02/24 between 9a-12p. We'll have the full roster of feeds and feeders there, but if you'd like to order ahead (THE BEST way to make sure we'll not have been bought out before you get there), make sure to get your orders in before 6p this evening.

2) Pick them up at the Old Sevier Sunday Market this Sunday, 02/25 between 1-5p. We'll have all our printed goods but only feeder mix and Bird Butter for feeds, so if you'd like any of our other products, please order them online (https://www.oakridgebirdman.com/shop/) before 6p *tomorrow* (Saturday) evening.

3) If neither of these are convenient, I'll be making a delivery run on Monday morning, so put your order together online with your address by noon on Sunday and I'll bring them straight to your door (or send them in the mail, if you're outside our delivery area). Noon Sunday cutoff!

The next time we'll be available for purchases will be Saturday, 03/02 at the Oak Ridge Winter Farmers Market, and I'll start processing web orders a day later (so don't go ordering online if you want to pick up on 03/03 - you'd have to wait). Hopefully this is a helpful rather than confusing level of detail, but if you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out!
